Almost all typical optical films are used in liquid crystal projection display systems. A typical LCD projection display optical system contains a light source (metal halide lamp or high pressure mercury lamp), an illumination optical system (including the light system and polarization conversion system), a color separation and color combination optical system, an LCD screen, and a projection optical system.

In order to improve the quality of the system, the general requirements of the production of color separation film should not only have a high wavelength positioning accuracy and in order to ensure that the color of high quality, but also requires the spectral curve of the dichroic mirror in the separation wavelength has a high steepness characteristics, in the cut-off band has a deep cut-off, in the passband has a high transmittance, a small degree of ripple.
