Photovoltaics have two major application fields: crystalline silicon and thin films. The conversion rate of crystalline silicon solar cells is relatively high, but the production process is polluted, which is only suitable for strong light environments and cannot generate electricity under weak light. Thin film solar cells, compared to other solar cells such as crystalline silicon, have many advantages such as low production cost, low raw material consumption, and excellent weak light performance, making it easy to achieve the integration of thin film photovoltaic buildings. Taking Cadmium telluride thin film battery, copper indium gallium selenium thin film battery and DLC thin film as examples, the application of thin film in photovoltaic industry is briefly introduced.

Cadmium telluride (CdTe) thin film batteries have the advantages of simple deposition, high optical absorption coefficient and stable performance. In practical production applications, CdTe in CdTe thin film components will be sealed between two pieces of glass, and there will be no release of heavy metal pots at room temperature. Therefore, CdTe thin film battery technology has unique advantages in building photovoltaic integration. For example, the photovoltaic curtain wall of the National Grand Theater’s dance beauty base, the walls of the photovoltaic museum, and the building’s lighting ceiling are all achieved using CdTe thin film components.

Copper steel selenium (CIGS) thin film solar cell technology and materials have very broad development prospects, and its performance is relatively stable, making it the most widely used type of thin film battery in the construction field. The efficiency of CIGS industrialization of large-scale photovoltaic modules is relatively high, currently almost approaching the conversion efficiency of crystalline silicon photovoltaic modules. In addition, CIGS thin film batteries can be made into flexible photovoltaic cells.

DLC thin films also have extensive applications in the photovoltaic field

DLC thin film, as an infrared antireflection protective film for Ge, ZnS, ZnSe, and GaAs optical devices, has reached a practical level. DLC thin films also have certain application space in high-power lasers, and can be used as window materials for high-power lasers based on their high damage threshold. DLC film also has a broad application market and potential in daily life, such as for watch glass, eyeglass lenses, computer displays, car windshields, and rearview mirror decorative protective films.
