The application of optical thin films in consumer electronics products such as mobile phones has shifted from traditional camera lenses to a diversified direction, such as camera lenses, lens protectors, infrared cutoff filters (IR-CUT), and NCVM coating on cell phone battery covers.

Camera specific IR-CUT filter refers to a filter that filters infrared light in front of a semiconductor photosensitive element (CCD or CMOS), making the reproduction color of the camera image consistent with the on-site color. The most commonly used is a 650 nm cutoff filter. In order to use it at night, 850 nm or 940 nm cutoff filters are often used, and there are also day and night dual-use or night specific filters.

Structured light face recognition technology (Face ID) uses 940 nm lasers, so it requires 940 nm narrowband filters, and requires very small angle changes.

The lens of mobile phone camera is mainly coated with antireflection film to improve imaging quality, including visible light antireflection film and infrared antireflection film. In order to improve the cleanliness of the outer surface, an antifouling film (AF) is generally plated on the outer surface. The surface of mobile phones and flat panel displays generally adopts AR+AF or AF surface treatment to reduce reflection and improve readability in sunlight.

With the advent of 5G, battery cover materials began to convert from metal to non-metallic, such as glass, plastic, ceramics, and so on. Optical thin film technology is widely used in the decoration of battery covers for mobile phones made of these materials. According to the theory of optical thin films, as well as the current development level of optical coating equipment and technology, almost any reflectivity and any color can be achieved through optical thin films. In addition, it can also be matched with substrates and textures to debug various color appearance effects.
