Understand the main role of vacuum coating equipment coating

The main purpose of vacuum coating is to reduce reflections. In order to improve the light transmittance and image quality of the lens, vacuum coating is required for the lens in the modern lens manufacturing process. The vacuum coating of the lens is based on the optical interference principle, and a layer of material (usually fluoride) with a thickness of a quarter wavelength is coated on the surface of the lens to minimize the reflection of the color light of this wavelength by the lens. Obviously, one film only works on one color light, while multi-layer vacuum coating can work on multiple colors.

Multi-layer coatings usually use different materials to repeatedly coat the surface of the lens with layers of different thicknesses. Multi-layer vacuum coating can greatly improve the light transmittance of the lens, for example, the reflectivity of each surface of an uncoated lens is 5%, which is reduced to 2% after single-layer vacuum coating, and can be reduced to 0.2% with multi-layer vacuum coating , in this way, the diffuse reflection between the lenses of the lens can be greatly reduced, thereby improving the contrast and sharpness of the image.

When light enters different transmission materials (such as from air into glass), about 5% will be reflected. There are many lenses and refractors in optical sights, which can add up to 30% to 40% of the incident light loss. . Modern optical lenses are usually coated with a single or multi-layer anti-reflection coating of magnesium fluoride. The single-layer anti-reflection coating can reduce the reflection to 1.5%, and the multi-layer anti-reflection coating can reduce the reflection to 0.25%, so the whole aiming If the mirror is properly vacuum coated, the light transmittance can reach 95%. Lenses with a single AR coating are usually blue-violet or red, and lenses with multiple AR coatings are light green or dark purple.

Vacuum coating is commonly used on camera lenses, myopia, hyperopia, reading glasses and other corrective glasses.

Vacuum coating is to coat a very thin transparent film on the surface. The purpose is to reduce the reflection of light, increase the light transmittance, resist ultraviolet rays and suppress flare and ghosting; the vacuum coating of different colors also makes the image color balance different. In addition, vacuum coating can delay the aging and discoloration of the lens.
